This effect can be activated optionally at the end of the Damage Step when "Heroic Challenger - War Hammer" itself destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard.
If "Heroic Challenger - War Hammer" battles a monster with the same ATK and both are destroyed, you cannot activate the monster effect "You can equip that destroyed monster to this card as an Equip Card (max. 1)."
If "Heroic Challenger - War Hammer" is already equipped with a monster by its own monster effect, you cannot activate the monster effect "You can equip that destroyed monster to this card as an Equip Card (max. 1)," even if it destroys another opponent's monster by battle.
The monster effect "This card gains ATK equal to the ATK of the monster equipped by this effect" is a Continuous Effect.
